In the mists of time, the ancient production of ceramics in Puglia is lost, thanks to the rich red clay caves present in the territory.
The main ceramics production center is Grottaglie, in the province of Taranto. In the heart of this quaint town, an entire district of expert ceramists has formed over the centuries, which, by obtaining laboratories and ovens in underground rock used in the past as mills, have been able to develop a flourishing craft business now recognized and appreciated in Worldwide.
The District of Ceramics in Grottaglie is located on a Gravina, the first inhabited area of the ancient Cryptae Aliae, up to the rise of the old town and the Castle, when the caves were reconverted into artisan shops and boutiques.
The raw material that intersects the historical memory transforms the workshop-laboratory of the Grottaglie ceramic into a "forge" of works of art: the intimate nexus that is established between the sculptures and the socio-cultural context sets the conditions for an evolution under the sign of creativity.

We will be hosted in one of the oldest workshops, a hypogeum mill in the rock where the master will illustrate the skillful art, processing techniques and characteristics of this unique production in the world.
At the end we will visit the exhibition area where we can best appreciate this creative art in all its expression.
